Last December our blog and forum came under attack by a user calling himself Noorudeenshakur (Noory) because he was banned for posting threatening emails.

Noorudeenshakur then enlisted the assistance of a prolific hacker known as DShocker who both used IRC channel and services of a cable modem hacking website.

From December through March both of these individuals were involved in frequent DDoS attacks against this website and other websites operated by other members of this site.

Also during this same period these same two individuals also called in fake emergency police calls by “spoofing” the home telephone numbers in the emergency 911 system (commonly referred to as swatting calls) against forum members and my family.

During the swatting attack against my family, they called into the 911 system for my area and reported that I had just shot my wife and that I had barricaded myself in my home and would shoot the first officer that approached.

Thankfully I was not home at the time when over 45 police officers and medical personal responded by setting up a command post around the corner from my home. As the command center was being set up, I unknowingly drove into their location while they were planning an assault on my home. Thankfully I knew most, if not all of the officers and I was able to explain the cause of the situation.

These same individuals were also involved in other computer crimes against me and admins/mods of the forum that included attempted hacking into our personal accounts, credit card fraud and e-mail spamming.
When the attacks began, I enlisted the assistance of several users of the forum, private investigators, computer security experts and investigators from the local, state and federal police departments in both the USA and Canada.

An extensive investigation costing thousands of dollars and hundreds of man hours was launched and in February. Jason Edward McLeod,a thirty three year old Aboriginal Indian living in Scarborough Canada was identified as Noorudeenshakur.

It was also discovered that Jason was convicted on June 23, 1994 for a homicide in the shooting death of a friend and was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Surveillance was set up with investigators and others assisting in this investigation on Jason.

This additional investigative work identified other associates that Jason was involved with.

One individual who was of great interest to US investigators was a hacker known only as DShocker.

As our investigation continued in Toronto, the Boston office of the FBI was lead to the doorstep of a 16 year old male juvenile living in Worcester, Massachusetts.

DShocker was identified as being one of the most prolific computer hackers in the US, responsible for numerous attacks against large corporations, businesses, individuals. DShockers exploits included “swatting” calls, attacks against other computer hackers and hacking into computer systems belonging to Road Runner, Comcast and Charter Communications.

On November 18, 2008 DShocker admitted to multiple computer felonies and was sentenced to a 11-month sentence in juvenile detention. http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/ma/Press%20Office%20-%20Press%20Release%20Files/Nov2008/DshockerPR.html

It took almost eleven months, but we got our guy(s)!

First off I want to thank all the members of the forum and their family members who stood up to these criminals even in times of hardship. I know being awakened by a swat team beating in your front door at 2:00 am or having your bank accounts in disarray isn’t a pleasant experience. We all stuck together to see this to the end and for your courage and commitment I thank each of you!

Secondly to the team at stopDDoS.org! These guys are amazing!!! Within 12 hours of our attack StopDDoS indentified the host and bot that was used in the DDoS attacks against our site. For weeks they were able to monitor DShocker’s botnet without his knowledge as he launched attacks against not only our website, but numerous other websites. Through this information and by monitoring these hackers through their IRC channels; they were able to identify additional suspects, witnesses and victims!

Next to the CastleCops.com Forum. When these attacks began I never heard of a DDoS attack let alone try to figure out a way to stop them. The information that their site and their members provided was invaluable.
Then to all the law enforcement officials that assisted in this investigation on both sides of the border. I suspect that you all thought I was a little wacky when I first notified you saying that I was a retired cop that sold radar detectors online. However you guys followed through and some bad guys were taken care of appropriately.

And lastly to all of the members of this blog and the RadarDetector.net forum and to the owners/admins of other forums in this industry, who endured the outages of the website, forwarded investigative information and deleted inappropriate postings.

I suspect that many of you may have one question after reading this post, “What happened to Noorudeenshakur”. Well I cannot say, so you’ll need to figure that out for yourself, but as for me it’s over and done with. Justice was served, he got owned and this is my final pwn

Here is a video of our surveillance done after Noory was identified:

A love for cars, trucks or anything else automotive is the founding principles for the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade association. For over forty years, this organization brings a diverse group of manufacturers, distributors, retailers, publishing companies, car clubs and automotive enthusiasts together each year for the world’s largest automotive trade show.

Several of the speed counter measure manufactures attend this week long event to show off their new wares and to network with others in the automotive industry.

Yesterday was opening day for the 2008 event and I felt that this would be a great opportunity to interview the CEO’s and/or engineers of the various radar detector and jammer companies to discuss their various products and their commitments to the industry and customer.

I first met with John Larson, the CEO of Escort Radar Incorporated. Over the past year Escort/Beltronics released three new GPS based radar detectors to the market, the Escort 9500ci which is high performance remote mounted radar detector and laser jammer combo; the 9500ix which is their dash mounted version; the Bel GX65 radar detector and their updated ZR4 laser defense system.

During our interview John stressed Escort’s commitment to the customer saying that they consider “the customer their boss” that they consistently seek input from the radar detector user to improve and develop new products. John revealed some of the new products that they are now working on saying they have several products in the works that will tie other automotive electronic devices into one central unit.

Next I interviewed Leon Gruner aka “Blinder Dude” the CEO from Blinder USA. Leon discussed their updated J16 version of the Blinder M-25 and M-45 laser jammer and their ability to remain strong in the speed counter measure market place for over eight years while others have failed. We also discussed our exploits during the Fireball Cross Country Rally and next year’s run from the west coast to east on Route 66.

Just prior to this year’s show, Don Norton the CEO from Cheetah USA gave me one of their new GPS based photo radar and red light camera alert units, the C100. I had an opportunity to test and review this unit in the Phoenix metro area just as the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Redflex activated sixty new speed enforcement cameras. Don and I discuss this new unit and how during a short eight mile trip it saved me from four of these new cameras and $600.00 in fines.

Cobra Electronics has also embraced GPS technology into their line of radar detectors. Tony, one of the lead engineers of Cobra introduces me to their 2009 line up. Tony who is a long time participant at the annual “Radar Detector Shoot Out” in El Paso, discusses their improvements in processing the incoming radar threats with their detectors and the free GPS update plan they offer.

Notably absent from this year’s show was both Michael Churchman, CEO of Rocky Mountain Radar and Raul Elguea their head engineer. At previous SEMA and CES (Consumer Electronics Show) I approached Raul with cash in hand and television news cameras rolling challenging Raul to demonstrate to me one of his radar jammer products in action in the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center . During this interview Raul backed down saying “Our product will not work in a parking lot”.

During last year’s SEMA event Michael Churchman also was a “no show” at his company’s booth. However I did find him at a Las Vegas bar where we sat down to discuss my $50,000.00 reward that I offer to anyone that could show me a Rocky Mountain Radar jammer/scrambler that worked. When I asked why he and his company had refused to take me up on my challenge he first replied saying that my test was rigged. I reminded Michael that it wasn’t my test, that I (we) would higher off duty police officers to perform the test and if his product worked, he would receive $50,000.00. Again Michael refused to take me up on my challenge.

This video recapping Rocky Mountain Radar’s history in the radar jammer/radar detector marketplace was shot directly in front of their booth and their staff was invited to participate, but they refused.

Twenty Seven years ago I was the founder of a public service organization aimed at helping at risk kids called Cops Who Care. I’m still involved with this organization and this week we are kicking off our annual Christmas toy drive and we just launched our new website at www.CopsWhoCare.org

The following documentry that was aired on the Crime Strike TV show was filmed a few years ago and provides an overview of this organization. If you find my blog informative I would urge you to visit the Cops Who Care website and make a small donation to their cause….

My first presentation was in Orlando Florida with Howie Schwartz. This presentation was geared toward advanced Internet marketers that are all involved in E-Commerce and/or affiliate marketing.

Yesterday, I gave a presentation that was geared to small business owners and nonprofit organizations at the Wickenburg Chamber of Commerce.

Later this month, I’ll be in Westport Ct. doing another joint presentation for Howie Schwartz’s Online Profits #3 Workshop.

If you’re interested in learning more about my training or coaching, check out www.AmazingInternetCoaching.com and watch the testimonials that some of the attendees provided:

I’m often amazed by the gullibility of distributors, dealers, radar detector websites and those who claim to be “expert reviewers” in this industry, case in point, the VF-2 Photo Radar Jammer.

Several years ago a Canadian company began manufacturing the Equalizer VF2 Photo Radar Jammer. They began by selling their device to the European market and in a short period began receiving rave reviews from various magazines and websites as the first electronic device to foil the traffic enforcement cameras.
During this same period, a Colorado based radar detector dealer found out about the device and obtained the exclusive distributorship for the USA. His first stop was Speed Measurement Laboratories to get their “stamp of approval.”

SML made it clear that he didn’t have access to a real photo radar or red light camera and that the only device they could offer was a commercial grade camera and flash device to test the VF-2. Eager to get the product on the market, the new distributor agreed. Several photographs were taken at close range and the VF-2 did block out the photos. The distributor then “spun” this test as an official endorsement.

Booths went up at SEMA and 12 volt electronic distributors and dealers signed up by droves to carry the first electronic countermeasure device offered in the USA that could foil all photo radar and red light cameras.
Being somewhat suspicious of the claims I obtained my first VF-2 directly from the distributor for my testing and review. Cameras and strobes of the same type as the automated traffic enforcement devices used in Arizona were obtained and I performed my first round of testing. The VF-2 failed to activate on over 100 attempts. I contacted the distributor who found fault in my testing procedures and made several recommendations.

We followed his advice but during the second round of testing we discovered that the power transformer of the VF-2 had failed, so the distributor was contacted and I was shipped another.

Just as the second unit arrived, the City of Scottsdale was in the process of activating eight new photo radar cameras on the 101 loop. During the initial phase of their program they were only issuing written warnings and not citations to violators. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to go out and put the VF-2 to a real world test without the risk of racking up fines.

The following video documents my test against four of their cameras going fifteen miles over the posted speed limit. One week later I received four written warnings from the City of Scottsdale in the mail for speeding.

We posted the results of our test and contacted the distributor and several other websites about the VF-2 failing in a “real world test.”

Two years later we still find these same websites and the Colorado distributor still selling and advertising this product as being effective against ALL TRAFFIC ENFORCMENT CAMERAS.

This weekend I received a final production model of the Bel RX65 radar detector and immediately installed it in my truck for my preliminary review.

This is an awesome unit! Not only can the detector detect X, K, Ka and Ku band (after activation) but is also a GPS unit equipped with the Trinity fixed traffic camera database for the USA and Canada.

The GPS will alert you to fixed photo radar and red light cameras that you are approaching.

I logged over 100 miles with the unit and were so impressed with its performance produced the following video.

I’ll be using the RX65 as my daily driver over the next few weeks and will follow-up with a more detailed video about the detectors performance next month….

Friday’s blog about the Mimic being “reborn” as a beamer hit a couple “hot” buttons as several European and Australian dealers flooded me with comments that were laced with profanity and veiled threats.

And another name for the Mimic was also provided along with a link from a US distributor that is not only dumping these on the international market as the “LaserTek Pro 20” but also is using a product image photo that I took of the product and posted on my original review of the mimic without my permission.

I was also had a couple private postings on RadarDetector.net from users to provide the history of the Mimic, so here goes:

Six years ago Bob Gibson was fired from Blinder USA during the time the first M-5 and M-10 units were produced. Bob had the original design of these units and figured that he would go into business himself mass producing his own laser jammer.

Bob took these M-5/M-10 plans and hooked up with a subsidiary of Attowave in Korea. Attowave is the same manufacture of Rocky Mountain Radar’s C-450 and the Stealth Ninja radar jammer that I’ve discussed in previous blogs.

As Bob was having thousands of these jammers produced in the sweatshops of Korea, he started calling US distributors. When Bob called me to ask if I was interested I told him that I would only carry the product after I did my own due diligence. Bob said that he would be pleased to send me a prototype; I told Bob that I wasn’t interested in any “juiced” units that I would make a “blind” purchase from one of his dealers after they came out on the retail market.

Chris Deaderick (JTW) was one of first to test Mimic’s prototypes. Chris was an ex Rocky Mountain Radar retailer who was attempting to change his colors and become an “independent tester” of laser jammer products.

Chris gave high marks for the Mimic on his website(s) and approached the Lance, the developer of the Phantom Laser Jammer, to become partners to sell the Mimic on Lance’s website.

I warned both Lance and Chris to use caution, as I suspected that after the product went into production the quality and performance could be questionable. Lance and Chris’s first order was a 100 Mimics, five of which I purchased for my own testing.

After receiving these units, I took them with me to the annual Radar Detector Shoot out in El Paso for an independent test. We installed a pair of Mimic’s on a white sub compact and the results were dismal. The Mimic had a success rate of only 14% in jamming at distances between 500 and 1000 feet.

We published our review on RadarBusters and within a few weeks several other customers did their own reviews which mirrored ours experiences and they posted their comments on RadarDetector.net.

Needless to say Mimic sales were dead in the water. So Bob Gibson and JTW regrouped and came out with several new names of the product and tried unsuccessfully to sell the product on other websites.

It seems now that Bob Thompson, who manages a international sales distributorship, decided to buy into their scam and rebrand the Mimic as the LaserTek Pro 20 and to sell them overseas.

I’ve done business with Bob in years past and he seemed like a very honest businessman, so I don’t suspect that he is knowingly taking part in this fiasco and when contacted he took my “HiJacked” image off their website immediatelly.
The saga continues….
