As far as an indepth review, I’m still a bit out, however in general terms the Blinder M25 and M45 are good performers in our last preliminary tests

I just bought and installed the Blinder M25 on my car. You have evaluated this laser jammer as 100 percent effective. However, after seeing this video clip, I’m not too certain anymore. What are your thoughts about this video? Thank you.

I am familiar with the video, that was shot by a competitor in Canada that has been bashing Blinder for a couple years

Did the final review of the M45 get published yet, I can’t seem to find it on your site? I was looking at getting the Escort ZR3 system for my 9500i, but after talking to Escort via email I’ve ruled them out as an option. They void the warranty if you don’t have a authorized reseller install the system. I have problems with that, my local reseller shop doesn’t even carry the ZR3 system, they knew next to nothing about it and even told me these were legal in California where I know they are not. Price is also an issue, the local shop said they can order the ZR3 for me, cost is $500, but free shipping, woo who. Escort sells it directly on their site for only $349 (I’ll eat the $5.00 shipping), however they void any warranty if you buy it from them (or anyone, authorized or not) and install yourself. They said the main reason is that an improper install could cause water to get into external emitter head and ruin them. My local authorized installers do not instill confidence in their product knowledge so the ZR3 isn’t an option for me. Not to mention Escort admitting they have a problem with water destroying this expensive product which should be designed and sealed so no matter who or how its installed water doesn’t get into it. It’s going outside a vehicle, it’s going to get wet, sounds more like a design flaw than an improper install issue.

So after reading some other reviews out there it does look like the Blinder system is by far the superior way to go. They also have enough confidence in their product and its design to back the warranty without paying even more for some $5.00 an hour kid at the “Escort authorized shop” to have to do the install.

In any case I’ve decided to get the M45 system from radarbusters.com (but would like to see Roys expert review first). I do have several questions on this though that hopefully the review will cover.

1) Are these unlike the ZR3 and fully water proof?

2) I know they sell the Cheetah system for these, but you can’t turn them off when needed. Do they offer some type of J box thing instead so you can connect all 4 wires under the hood together and then only have to run a single wire through the firewall. In your vidio you indicate it doesn’t matter which wire plugs in to which number so that tells me they all fire at the same time, why are 4 seperate wires needed through the firewall then? You have to drill a pretty big hole to get 3 wires and the last (4th) RJ-11 connector into the vehicle. A single wire would seem to greatly simplify the install as well and have less wires running through the engine compartment to the rear.

3) This emitts IR light from what I read. In the reviews I see the LIDAR units now have built in digital cameras to record and document the vehicle and the speed. When the police are targeting your vehicle through the LIDAR gun the brite IR LEDs all over the front of your vehicle should be obvious to them, yet I don’t read anyone mentioning this to be a problem, instead only concerns of being able to turn it off when LIDAR is detected?

4) I’m just throwing this one out there in the hopes that someone can answer it. I can’t find a definative answer to this question anywhere. I live in, vehicle registered in and Drivers License are all in Nevada where laser jammers are legal. I often drive though in California where they are illegal. My local incompetant Escort authorized shop told me that since everything about me as a driver is registered in Nevada that there is nothing CHP can do if I’m caught with using this in a Nevada regestered vehicle and with my Nevada State drivers license even if I am using it in a state where laser jammers are illegal. Short of hiring a lawyer to research this, where do you look to confirm possible loop holes in the laws like this? I don’t want to find out they were wrong the hard way by having my $679 purchase removed from my vehicle on the roadside and an additional expensive ticket tacked onto me. My local authorized Escort shop didn’t even seem to know the difference between a laser jammer or shifter and a Radar Detector and I was talking to the store manager and 3 of his employees.

Laser jammers are illegal in CA., but I have never heard of anyone getting a citation having one.

Escort will be coming out with the new ZR4 in April if you’re willing to wait and see what the test results are.

THe M45 is a M25 with two extra heads, they are waterproof. When they activate, police will have no idea unless they have special IF filters and I have never seen them do that..

With the cheetah, you don’t have to run a wire through the firewall, all connections are under the hood

Thanks again Roy, it seems a no brainer to wait until Aprilish to check out the new ZR4 system. I just hope they offer it without the risk of getting your warranty voided by self installing. I’ve certainly voided plenty of warranties in my life, but if it can at all be avoided I’d prefer that. I wouldn’t trust my only authorized installers in this area to change a fuse in my vehicle, let alone install anything more advanced than a bumper sticker.

In any case I’ll be waiting to read your review on the new product once its available. I was finally able to get on your web site message board so I can spend my time hanging out there while I wait for April to come.

Any truth to the rumors of people getting hit with “Interference of Police Duties” when using a Laser Jammer?
If so, is it a fine or what?

Several states have laws outlawing laser jammers such as CA, VA, NE, CO

For more info on the laws, visit http://www.radarbusters.com/laserenforcementarticle.cfm

I have a question for you.

Upon review of most of the info on various sites, the Laser has a beam of 12″ to 18″ inches.

If your laser detector is in the windshield and they are targeting your headlight or plate is there residual light that the detector is picking up on, since the distance would be more than 18″ more than likely?

So, does the laser beam diameter actually have to hit the windshield while the cop is trying to lock on to your car to trip the detector?

Just a question I haven’t seen answered yet.

Thanks

Jeff

Yes at 1000 feet a laser beam is around 18″ wide. If you have a detector mounted on the windshield you’re hoping to pick up a laser signal while the officer is panning and tilting his gun to get a hit or by picking up “splatter”
