Welcome, I am Radar Roy and this is my personal blogging site.

In 1997 I retired as a Lieutenant from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona, after a 20 year career in law enforcement. During my career I first worked as a patrol officer in the Wickenburg area, then I was transferred to the Special Investigations section of the department and for five years specialized in undercover organized crime investigations. Upon making rank of Sergeant, I was transferred back into patrol and then several years later I was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Also, during my career I was certified as a police traffic radar instructor and I certified hundreds of officers from various Arizona police agencies the operation of police radar and other forms traffic enforcement equipment.

After retiring in 1997, I started developing websites for various clients.

Because of my interest in traffic enforcement and my dislike for the new automated traffic radar devices that were popping up all over Arizona, I started Radarbusters.com. The initial intent of the site was to provide information to motorists about the weaknesses of the photo radar system and how to successfully challenge your citation without even going to court.

Immediately Radarbusters became a popular website for motorists and because of my background in radar, users began asking for information about the various speed counter measurement tools available, such as radar detectors, radar jammers and the photo radar covers.

One of the first items I purchased was one of those radar jammers you may have heard about advertised on the radio that guarantees no tickets, the Phazor radar scrambler from Rocky Mountain Radar.

Armed with X, K and Ka band radar guns and a laser gun that I then borrowed from some law enforcement contacts, I took the Phazor out for tests. What I found was amazing, the device had NO EFFECT what so ever on any of police radar or laser equipment!

I immediately put out a challenge to the radar and laser jammer industry to show me any passive radar or laser jammer that works, that I would pay you $5,000.00! Since issuing this challenge over seven years ago, not one company and/or individual has taken me up on my offer.

After these earlier tests, I began stocking up on my own arsenal of police radar and laser guns and began testing other devices such as radar detectors and active laser jammers and posting the results on our website.

As the site grew in popularity, it became apparent that there was no reliable source for many of the devices that I found were effective in reducing your chances of getting a citation, and we decided to change the focus of our website from just being an informational website, but also becoming a source for the best products traffic countermeasure devices in the industry.

Our roots still are planted firmly in the testing and review of radar detectors and jammers and we still perform our own tests while also participating  with other testing venues such as Speed Measurement Laboratories and the Guys of Lidar.

Two years ago I stated a forum for users of radar detectors and jammers at Radardetector.net. With over 2000 members, some of which are actively involved in the industry, the site has become the most informative radar and laser website in the world today.

With growth, comes problems. Because of all the activity on RadarDetector.net, it is sometimes difficult to post new observations in the industry, without it getting lost in the clutter. Therefore I started my blog here at RadarRoy.com where I hope to highlight many of the important topics in the industry.

I welcome everyone’s input and suggestions on how I can provide the most accurate and timely information in the industry and look forward to your input.
